Ride Recommendations – Water Dog
When we were looking to open the shop, we specifically were looking for a location that was within riding distance to WaterDog Lake Park in Belmont. This is a little gem of a park that many people don’t know about. Has about 10 miles of trail, much of which is singletrack designed and built by mountain bikers. Definitely worth checking out.
Here is a full map of WaterDog Lake (1.6 MB PDF file). We also have printouts of this map available at the shop – just ask.
Listed below are some of the WaterDog rides that would give you a good feel for the park and what it has to offer:
- Easy Ride Recommendation – The vast majority of this ride is on fire road, with only a short stretch of singletrack. There are some climbs (and one somewhat steep descent), but the pay off is some great views – on a clear day, you can see all the way to San Francisco.
- More Advanced Ride Recommendation – The route takes you on a tour of some of the singletrack that the park has to offer. Total ride is about 7.5 miles, of which over 5 miles is singletrack.
- Crazy Advanced Ride Ok, so this is not really recommended, or even much of a trail ride… If you look at the ladder in the shop and wonder if you could ride it, then this may be for you. Doubles, gaps to clear, silly steep drops, etc. are all part of this. Beyond the skill of mere mortals like us. If you still plan to try this, come to the shop and check out the armor and full face helmets we sell.
Never been to Waterdog? Here are directions from the Shop to WaterDog – this page shows how to get there from the shop, but can just as easily be used to get there from 101 or the Belmont CalTrain station (for an auto-free ride).
There are some photos and short video clips from some shop rides at WaterDog located here and here.
